Case Study - Ford Oakville

Customer Challenge

As part of a major program to support the production of the next generation Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, Ford needed to retrofit it’s Oakville, Ontario plant.  The project required demolition of the obsolete tooling and equipment, installation and relocation of conveyors and automation tooling, installation of a new fuel fill skid system, and rearrangement of the cycle line equipment on all trim, door, and chassis lines.  All of this had to be completed during the course of a four week shutdown period.

FM Sylvan Solution

FM Sylvan mobilized and managed more than 350 tradespeople, including millwrights, ironworkers, pipefitters, electricians, and laborers.  FM Sylvan’s deep expertise in industrial pipe fabrication and installation, electrical/conveyor work, millwright and rigging, enabled the high quality delivery of plant retrofit, while the company’s strong financial, labor, and project management capabilities helped reduce the risk associated with having a high number of disparate trades on a project in a short timeframe.

The Edge and Lincoln MKX retrofit was completed on time and on budget, allowing Ford to return to production quickly to meet the demand for these new vehicles.
